Karamara Ethiopian Restaurant Review – Arlington VA.

Karamara Ethiopian Restaurant is located in the heart of the growing Columbia Pike corridor in Arlington, VA.

Tucked away in a cozy strip of restaurants, Karamara offers convenient parking and a very enjoyable dining experience.

With a more casual area downstairs to sit and a larger more formal dining area upstairs, guests are treated to simple, yet attentive service.

Without reservation, we were seated right away. Greeted by an amazing aroma of spices as well as friendly servers, Karamara offers a full menu of appetizers, specialties, meat entrees and vegetarian dishes.

Karamara Ethiopian Restaurant appetizer

Karamara Ethiopian Restaurant appetizer On my visit, my companion and I started our meal with the Timatim Fitfit, a bread salad featuring a tomato, onion, jalapeno, garlic, lemon juices and exotic spices mixed with pieces of injera. It also came with a side of injera, perfect for scooping up the fitfit. Just spicy enough to provide a kick, it was a great starter – not too filling, but enough to whet one’s palette.

Karamara Ethiopian Restaurant maincourseFor the main course, we chose the Karamara tibs, marinated beef cooked with onion, jalapeno, rosemary and spices, and tibs firfir, beef cooked with onions, jalepano, tomato, rosemary, butter and additional spices. Served together on a large flat piece of inerja. The Karamara tibs were cooked to perfection, it was hard not eat them as is right off the plate. The tibs firfir was very tender and it wasn’t long until we were full.

Though we didn’t have room for dessert, we vowed to return again to sample more of the menu. Overall, Karamara provided a relaxing, casual dining environment with delicious food and generous portions, with attentive and helpful servers all at an affordable price. With appetizer and two main entrees and generous helpings of injera, the entire meal cost $35 before tip.
